Annette Wozniak

Clinical Psychologist

MA Clin Psychology (University of Witwatersrand)

About Me

I offer in-person and online therapy sessions via Zoom. I am based in the UK in North London, East Finchley. My consulting room is well connected with public transport and near to Highgate, Hampstead, West Hampstead, Muswell Hill and Crouch End.

I offer individual therapy, couple therapy and I work with families and groups on a wide range of issues such as relationship difficulties, problems with adjustment, trauma, bereavement, chronic illness and coming to terms with a physical or mental health diagnosis.

My intention is to help to you come away from therapy equipped with a set of therapeutic tools for coping better as well as continuing to grow yourself.

You are welcome to make an appointment for an initial session but if you would like to meet beforehand for an informal 30-minute meeting, I offer that too. Making contact with a therapist is a big step and finding the right therapist is important for a positive outcome. I like to think of therapy as a collaborative process and I encourage you to talk about what you expect and what you hope to achieve through therapy.

Clinical Experience

I have been practising as a clinical psychologist for the past 16 years’ and am passionate about my work. I am registered and accredited with the HCPC in the UK and the HPCSA in South Africa.

I have worked as a clinical psychologist in diverse settings, including private practice, private mental wellness clinics, community health clinics, university and other professional training. One of my areas of specialisation is couple therapy and I have practiced as a couple therapist for over 12 years. Presently, I am the programme lead for the Couple Therapy for Depression Postgraduate Diploma (CTfD PG Dip) at Tavistock Relationships. I have been involved in the training and supervision of clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and couple psychotherapists at university and postgraduate level for over 10 years. I have also supported and supervised mental health counsellors in community health settings on a range of public health issues.

"Therapy is like weaving beads. The therapist listens for the twists and turns, the threads that hold all the parts together, the repetition, the links. "

"Life is a train of moods like a string of beads, and as we pass through them they prove to be many coloured lenses which paint the world their own hue."

Psychotherapy

Choosing a therapist can feel daunting, but I would encourage you to take the step and try. Speaking to a professional when you have a level of distress, anger or confusion that feels too hard to bear, can really help. Therapy can help you to work through pain from the past, maintain changes in the present and grow resources to cope better in the future. There are many different ways of working with therapy and no one therapy fits all. Ideally there should be a good fit between you the client, your therapist and the therapy process. This is why I like to be open about this and discuss it right from the start.

My own professional development is ongoing. I have undertaken additional training in various aspects of psychodynamic couple therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mentalisation-based therapy for couples and couple therapy for depression. I am also trained to work with groups (group analytic training). I must add though, that my greatest learning comes from the people I have worked with and those I continue to work with.

Psychodynamic Therapy

This is the broad area that describes how I am trained and how I chose to work.

COUPLES THERAPY

Couples can experience many challenges in their relationship. I am here to help.

Dialectical behavioural therapy

What can we do when our feelings overwhelm us? How to learn to pause before saying or doing things that we are likely to regret.

Mentalization-based therapy

Therapy which is focused on helping you to understand yourself and others better.
